實驗室簡介

糖轉運機制及調控:

          糖是植物所有生化反應的能量來源,同時也扮演訊息傳遞的功能。而儲存在採收器官中的糖份及轉的碳水化合物決定農作物的產量,此取決於糖 如何有效分配。位於膜上之糖轉運蛋白 (sugar transporter) 則扮演關鍵的調控角色,先前研究成果顯示 SWEET 糖轉運蛋白對植物葉片的糖輸出、sink-source 分配及根部的糖分泌皆參與其中。因此,本實驗室的長期目標為透由分子生物及生物技的方法來剖析蕃茄作物中 SWEET 糖輸出機制對作物生產的重要性及其調控。
 
 環境因子對醣轉運平衡的影響: 
       近幾年氣候變遷,如高溫、乾旱等,已嚴重衝擊全球糧食生產,也加遽了農作病蟲害發生,而造成農藥過量之食安問題。研究指出植物對生物逆境的抗性與糖分配有很大的關係,本實驗室更進一步証實 Arabidopsis SWEET 糖運輸蛋白在植物與微生物互動介面扮演重要的糖份回收機制,以避免病原菌利用感染。可見找到關鍵抗病糖轉運蛋白對於建構抗病作物有很大應用潛力。 因此,本實驗室另一研究 方向為剖析蕃茄作物中 SWEET 糖運輸機制在植物與微生物共生或感病關係的功能角色。

Lab Introduction

Sugar transport mechanism and regulation:
      Sugar is the key bioenergy for plant growth, as well as the important signal. Moreover, sugars and  derived carbohydrates in harvested organs determine crop yield, which depends on efficient sugar allocation. Thus, membrane-localized sugar transporters play a key role to regulate sugar distribution. SWEET sugar carriers are critical in sugar export from source leaves, sink-source distribution and sugar efflux from roots. Therefore, the long-term goal of my lab is to dissect functions and regulations of SWEET transport mechanisms in tomato via molecular and biotechnical approaches.  

Effect of environmental factors on sugar homeostasis
      Recent climate change, such as high temperature and drought, has impacted global food production and facilitated pathogenesis, which results in food safety. Studies indicate that plant resistance to biotic stresses is linked to sugar allocation. Our studies confirm that Arabidopsis SWEET sugar transporter plays an important role to retrieve sugars during plant-microbe interaction to prevent from pathogen infection. Thus, discovery of sugar transports involved in disease resistance will of great application. Thus, another objective in my lab is to dissect the role of sugar transporter in tomato crops during plant-microbe symbiotic and pathogenic interactions.
